Welcome to The Summit Stories Journal, a place where photography, journalism, and adventure come together to tell the stories found beyond the trailhead.
Growing up in Montana, the outdoors was never far away. Mountains lined the horizon, trails were always waiting to be explored, and some of my favorite memories were made outside. Whether I was hiking through the woods, standing beside an alpine lake, or simply sitting in nature, I found a sense of peace and perspective that I couldn’t find anywhere else.
What began as a love for photography eventually led me to journalism. In 2025, a high school journalism teacher encouraged me to share my photographs through storytelling. What started with photo stories quickly grew into feature writing, video storytelling, and a passion for journalism that I never expected to discover. Today, I am pursuing journalism in college, and that one opportunity continues to shape the path I am on.
The Summit Stories Journal was created to combine the things I love most: storytelling, photography, and the outdoors. Through this journal, I will share trail reports, hiking adventures, photography, gear reviews, Montana stories, and the lessons learned along the way.
You may notice that I write under the name Oakley. While it is not my real name, it is the name I have chosen for this project. I wanted this journal to focus on the stories, experiences, and places being explored rather than on me personally. The mountains, trails, and adventures are the heart of this journal, and Oakley is simply the storyteller sharing them.
My hope is that these stories inspire you to step outside, explore somewhere new, appreciate the beauty around you, and perhaps discover your own adventure along the way.
